Still not pregnant – what now?

So you have been trying for many months now and you are still not pregnant, you are starting to wonder if something is wrong but you dont know what, and you dont know what you should now? You have been charting and you know you are ovulating and you also know that your timing during the month has been correct, but you are still not pregnant. So what now?

There are several things that are good to do at this stage

  1. starting some testing can be good to get further information, firstly starting with sperm tests. This is an easy thing to do and an easy thing to work on if necessary.
  2. getting a Practitioner to have a look at the charts you have been keeping. From looking at a few months of charts its is possible to see some hormonal fluctuations that may be affecting your ability to conceive, give you guidance on timing sex and may be able to identify other things that may be affecting your chances, like an under active thyroid.
  3. Assuming you are already eating well, managing your stress levels and taking a good multivitamin, it might be time to start using herbs to regulate your hormones, ensure the balance is correct at the right time. With the help of a natural medicine practitioner identifying if your immune system is causing some difficulties and perhaps using herbs and nutrients to manage this.

Generally I would suggest giving Natural Medicine a chance for 3 – 6 months. This is a good period of time to be able to make the changes that your body may need to help you get pregnant. Its takes approximately 3 months to develop healthy eggs from follicles, it also takes 3 months to produce new healthy sperm. This is a great place to start before heading down assisted reproductive technology.

Ready to Conceive?

For a generally healthy couple trying to conceive, up until early 30′s you have a chance of approximately 15-20% of conceiving any given month. So for most couples its very normal to take up to 6mths to conceive.

If you add to this, not knowing exactly when you are ovulating, therefore not timing sex correctly, or low sperm count, stress, hormonal imbalances, couples getting older, smoking etc etc etc, it can easily take 12 months or even more.  While the medical model would suggest after 12mths of unsuccessful trying its time to start having investigations, there is no reason you cant start identifying other issues of concern way before this.

Starting to chart your temperatures and mucus changes is an easy first place to start. This can identify hormonal imbalances and also ensure you are timing sex correctly.

Ensuring you are eating well, lots of fresh alive healthy food. Reducing all forms of toxins – alcohol, coffee, cigarettes and giving yourself every chance to have healthy sperm and eggs. We know it take approximately 3 mths to develop sperm and eggs from follicles, so you need to give yourself this length ot time to influence the quality of what you are producing.

Taking a GOOD Multivitamin and perhaps any other nutrients that are necessary for you and your individual situation.

All of these things are things you can do now, without waiting, and in fact are good things to do BEFORE you start trying.
